Happy 28th (oops 38th) Birthday Tawnua

Yesterday was Tawnua’s 38th Birthday.  Robert & I took Tawnua & Sean to a local Restraurant call Benihana. It is a Japanese restaurant that gives you a personalized experience while having your choice of succulent seafood, tender chicken, juicy steaks, and grilled garden-fresh vegetables. At Benihana’s we sit around a teppanyaki table/grill and our meal is expertly prepared and cooked to perfection on a steel grill right in front of our own eyes. The food is delicious. Our chef was very accommodating.  Sean can not eat Garlic. So the Chef prepared all the food that didn’t have garlic in it prior to cooking  the fried rice that did have garlic in it. Overall it was a nice lunch.  If you go there on your birthday they give you a wedge of pineapple & sing Happy Birthday to you in English & Japanese. They also will take a picture of you. Here is the picture that they took of Tawuna & Sean.

Brewers were in Town

Two weekends ago was BASEBALL weekend for us. (I am a little behind times right now..life has been busy)

The Milwaukee Brewers were in town to play the San Diego Padres.  My parents are from Wisconsin, so grew up a Brewer fan (when they are in town). I grew up here in San Diego so I am more of a Padres fan.  I have to root for the Brewers when they are in town.

So this weekend I got the best of both worlds.  Saturday night Robert & I took or roommates Mark & Josh.  Josh is 5 & Mark is 40 something. LOL  Mark had never been to Petco Park. So we thought we would show him around the stadium.  We took them through the Western Metal Supply Company Building. (The business that became Western Metal Supply Company in 1902 was established in 1888 by brothers Bernard and George McKenzie. It originally specialized in steel distribution, wagon makers’ materials, and blacksmith’s supplies, and later evolved into a large hardware wholesale operation, adding plumbing, auto supplies, pipe fittings, equipment for automobiles and gasoline engines, roofing supplies and sporting goods to its inventory.)

Inside the building on the second floor they have a display of the items from the History of San Diego Baseball. Here’s a picture of the boys checking it out.

On the bottom floor is the Gift shop.  A secret place in that if you got straight in when you enter & go down the ramp (to where the little kids stuff is) there is a gated section of the left field.  If you stand there you are actually on the field. We went to that area when the Brewers were having batting practice. A lot of the balls were hit in that area while the Pitching staff was warming up in that area.  I was sporting my Brewers Tee shirt (actually it was one of my softball uniforms-but we won’t tell anyone. That is until I turn around you can read Tam-Tam #32) LOL. I was taking picture’s of the players there.  On of the Brewers came over to the fence & gave me a baseball.  I was so ecstatic.  Of course I gave it to Josh. After all what 5 year old doesn’t want a Major League baseball from a game. I found out later the Brewer that gave me the ball was the Bullpen coach Stan Kyles.

(I wish I had a better picture)

The Padres ended up winning that on Saturday night the Padres won 4-2.

*******************************************************************************

On Sunday Robert & took my Dad to the Game.  This was a day game.  I just love day games.  Expecially in Sunny San Diego. The weather was perfect (in the shade).  There was a nice breeze .  After all the Stadium is built next to the bay. (I know Bragger..LOL)

On Sunday’s the Padres invite the Marines Recruits from our local Base “MCRD“. These recruits are set to graduate within the next few weeks. (By this time they have already graduated)

My Dad was a Marine that actually graduated from this base back in 1969.

This game was a plus for all of us.  We got to watch their closing pitcher Trevor Hoffman. For those of you that don’t know him, he was with the closing pitcher for the Padres from 1993 to 2008. He is one of the best closing pitchers ever.

The Brewer’s beat the Padres 6 to 1 at this game.

Overall it was a great Baseball weekend.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROBERT

Yesterday was my husband’s birthday… I wasn’t home that much this weekend so I didn’t do a post for him.  (I know Excuses, Excuses).  For his birthday he went golfing with his brother at a course in Carlsbad, Ca.  He said it was a hard course & lost 18 balls there.  LMAO!!  They did have a fun time though.  After that we went to Linner at Outback Steak House.  It was Delicious!!  Not much more after that…

We do plan on going to see “Fiddler on the Roof” later this week for his birthday gift from me.  It is the farewell tour for “Topol.” Topol is mostly widely known for his portrayal of Tevye. He has enjoyed appearing in this role over 2500 times so far.

I just want to say HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY GIRLS!! I hope you had a fun day..

Today is Shelby’s 16th birthday!!! I can’t possibly be the Gmom of a 16 year old! I swear I am still in my 30’s. that is till I try to get out of bed, bend down to tie shoes, etc. Then I know my real age!
Any how I send my beautiful Gdaughter the best of wishes and love on her special day. Watch out Zoners, there will be another TEENAGER driver before long. LOL(for those from Wis., Zoners is what Cal. people call the residents of Arizonia, LMAO) I can only imagine what they call us. But its all in fun-we love the desert like they love the ocean. Love to all, Janet

Mexican Wedding Cakes

I am inserting this post for Tawnua.  For some reason we can’t get her logged in.  This is a recipe from her mom. She has made these a couple of time now & they are delicious!!

1 Cup of Butter (not Margarine)

1/2 Cup of Powdered Sugar (no lumps)

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon Vanilla

2 Cups of Flour

1/4 Cup of finely chopped Pecans (very fine)

Preheat oven to 400 degrees

Cream Butter & Sugar together. Mix in all other ingredients. Roll into balls. Bake @ 400 degrees 10 to 12 minutes.  As soon as you pull out the cookies, drop (aprox. 6 @ time) in a bag with Powdered Sugar .  Gently turning over.  Let them cool on a wire rack.  Once cooled toss in powdered sugar bag again.

Chocolate Eclair Torte

This is a super quick, super easy & super decadent dessert. It’s a great dish for pot lucks, BBQ’s (where there’s a fridge) & just because.

Ingredients:

  • Plain Graham Crackers
  • 4 sm or 2 lg Boxes of French Vanilla Instant Pudding
  • 4 Cups Milk
  • 8oz Tub of French Vanilla Cool Whip
  • 2 15.6oz Chocolate Fudge Frosting

Directions:

  1. Blend Pudding Mix & Milk
  2. Fold in Cool Whip & Set Aside
  3. Place a single layer of Graham Crackers on the bottom of a 9×13 pan.
  4. Carefully add Pudding Mixture and spread to edges.
  5. Frost the tops of more Graham Crackers & place on top of the pudding mixture
  6. Add more frosting & spread to fill in gaps & to cover completely.

A couple notes…

  • It’s best if made the day before.
  • You don’t have to use Cool Whip brand.
  • You can add a layer of Graham Crackers in between layers of pudding mix.
  • You can use different flavored puddings, cool whips and/or frosting.
